The doctoral dissertation must be developed under the supervision of an advisor until its final draft.

The doctoral dissertation must be an original investigation that shows the applicant’s scientific maturity and contributes with new knowledge in the field.

If a change in the dissertation project is necessary, due to any incident, resubmit it to the Program Coordinating Committee and also to the Scientific Committee of the Heart Institute of HCFMUSP, and hand over a copy at the Coordinating Committee office after CAPPesq approval.

The PhD student who has met all regulatory requirements will request for the appraisal of the dissertation, with advisor’s permission and approval of the Program Coordinator.

The student will be dismissed from the course in case of the following situations:

• if he/she fails the same discipline twice or fails three different disciplines;
• if he/she does not regularly perform the enrollment in each university term within the period provided in the school calendar established by the Graduate Committee;
• if he/she fails twice in the qualification test;
• if he/she does not comply with an activity or requirement within the regulatory deadlines;
• at the request of the interested party;
• unsatisfactory academic and scientific performance, based on objective criteria established by the Program or by the Graduate Committee.

A inscrição para o Exame de Geral de Qualificação (EGQ) deve ser realizada quando atingido até 60% do prazo do curso do aluno, e a realização do EGQ até 120 dias após a data da inscrição.
    
Quando da realização do EGQ, o aluno deverá ter cumprido no mínimo 14 créditos em disciplinas.

Exame constituirá da análise dos créditos obtidos, da apresentação do projeto de tese, composto por: Introdução, Material e Métodos, Resultados Parciais e Referências Bibliográficas.

No exame de qualificação, o aluno pode ser aprovado ou reprovado, não havendo atribuição de conceito.

O aluno que for reprovado no exame de qualificação poderá repeti-lo apenas uma vez, em prazo não superior a cento e oitenta dias contados a partir da data de realização do primeiro exame.

A comissão examinadora, aprovada pela CCP, deve ser constituída por três membros titulares e dois suplentes, com titulação mínima de doutor, devendo sua formação ser definida segundo critérios previamente aprovados pela CCP.

O orientador, e/ou co-orientador não poderá fazer parte da comissão julgadora do EGQ.
